What is this barn find?

Post by Prairiedog » Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:37 am

Kit Boat?
I've search around this old girl and can't find anything that would indicate a brand or year on her, the only thing I've found is the deck carlins are number one to five with a pencil. No tags or serial numbers stamped anywhere. She is built a lot like a CC but looks to have a lot of fir in it. The deck is tongue and grove the screws are strait slotted flat heads. Registration number is not on file anymore according to the IA DNR.
Any Ideas ????????????

Century?
Boats are to be made of wood, otherwise, God would have grown fiberglass trees.

Do you have an idea of where any numbers should be if it is a Century?
Thanks,
Perry

What length is it? It fairly strongly resembles a post-war (1947?) Century Imperial Sportsman. Can't help you on HIN locations, sorry.

1946 Gar Wood 22' 6" Sedan

She's 16ft.
Anyone have a idea of what it's worth? We would be willing to part with it if someone is interested in restoring her!

Speaking of barn finds, this one is incredible. It's kind of a land yacht. I hope the link works. If not, it is a 1928 Mercedes, one owner, unrestored. Expected to fetch 1-2 million $$$$$$$.

Maybe one of the Iowa builders?

Hafer Boat Works at Spirit Lake (1896-1968)
Wilson Boat Works at Okoboji

Mary Kennedy at the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum at Arnolds Park may be a good contact person.
