chris craft tool kit
I put this post under Hardware an have not received any replies. I am trying to find someone who can describe Chris Craft tool kit that came with most boats into the 1950s. My Hull card said my 1954 has a tool kit. Does anyone have a C.C. tool kit from the 1950s and would they share a picture. Thank you for any help. There is a post from 2008 which shows a tool kit for a prewar boat.

I heard Jim Hastings was the "tool man" and I'm sure Mr. Staib has the low down.

There was a nice article and plans for building replicas of these in an older Classic Boating or Rudder - can't remember which. Will try and dig around and let you know. Someone else out there might have a better memory or index to help.

Hi. Thank you for info. I have seen a picture of a prewar tool kit posted on Boat Buzz in 2008. But have not found any info for the 1950s. In the Archives, there is discussion of the C.C.Club looking for information about tool kits but no post from the 50s.

Re: chris craft tool kit
Here is a photo of a pre-war tool kit. I'm not sure who made it up and if the clear plastic face is correct (I know it's not for the really early boats) but it was copied from a original one found in a well preserved boat. I have some original documents from Chris Craft that shows most of these tools but it also changed with what engine came in the boat. For example the Chris Craft engines came with a slightly different tool kit then the Kermath engines. It is my opinion only that the tool kits did not change very much over the years, maybe a different style hammer or wrench but for the most part you would of had the same basic tools. The tool roll would have been all canvas in the early years and then maybe went to a canvas and clear plastic face later but I have never seen an original one that way.

Re: chris craft tool kit
Thank you for the great pictures. I know the tool kit was wrapped in a canvas bag and not in clear plastic. Also, I find it interesting that the larger wrench shown in the bottom pic. is the same one that was in my 1954 Sportsman. So it appears that not much had changed over the years. Great information. I am sure now I will be able to replicate the tool kit. Great job.
Re: chris craft tool kit
John D. recently sent me an excellent article on tool boxes and different tool kits. The article was by Don Danenberg and published in Classic Boating, Jan/Feb. 2012. No.65 pages 39, 41 and 43. Great research on chris craft tool kits. You can order a copy of 2012 Classic Boating maag. for $6.00. Phone #(262) 567-4800. Thanks John D.
