I'm working on one now. (Well, working on her once in a while).
If you are going to work on yours, get the drawings, hull card and other stuff from the Mariners Museum.
Hull # 16-R-OX2 (March 1946)
Engine 1B #26564

That's me 1950 - already a CC lover!

Yes, CCABC director al benton wrote one a couple of years ago. He has developed quite some expertise on them. I know he would be happy to help you. Do post some pictures of your work. thanks.

I have a 1948 that I'm getting ready to start (hull #R17-1400).

For those that have purchased them, which plans from the Mariners Museum did you find useful versus those you could have done without?

I restored a 1948 17' Deluxe back to its original spec a couple of years ago. I have shared info with Al and the photo in Al article was Knotty '48 my old 48 17' Deluxe. It is a great little boat and lot's of fun. Start out with the hull card and get the drawing that are available which are not much. My boat had been stripped and the midship crown had been cut out so I had to build it all over. I have loads of documentation and Don Ayers did a article in 2006 in the Brass Bell on her.
I did make a small change to the seat backs. I put 3 cords vertical on each of them to break up the large seat back.
I will post a few photo's and let me know what you need.

Here is a 1948 Chris Craft Deluxe Runabout for sale I ran across on Craigslist.

Price seems way high, but a boat worthy of restoring.

Could somebody with a 17' Deluxe Runabout be able to measure the length of the floor of the back seat? I have 11" which is not enough for a man's foot. I am thinking of moving the front seat up a couple inches to make it more comfortable.

Regarding information on 17' Runabouts, there is an article from Dec 1, 1985 Brass Bell and another one in the Spring 2011 Brass Bell. The Antique & Classic Boat Society magazine RUDDER has an articles in the Spring 2003 edition.

Does anyone know if the Runabout Enthusiast Group on this web site have information? I have yet to figure out how to access the Group information.

tmadlem,
I ordered all of the available drawings for my '48 Dlx and there were definitely some not worth it. If you will be doing extensive woodwork restoration, the following drawings are very helpful:
6381 - Chine sections
6965 - Eng. change #1328 - for boats with the new panel with the instuments in the center, you need this.
6026 - Inboard profile - contains extensive details
6387 - Hull lines - provides good measurements
6392 - Inboard profile #2 - can possibly do without, adds more frame detail to 6026
6426 - Deck arrangement & profile - Great line drawing of profile and overhead with complete detail, you will want to frame it.
6522 - Forward seat details - If you have the seat assemblies you don't need this
6864 - Wiring diagram - compete schematic with wire sizes and lengths

Good luck,
Denis
