Decal Question

Post by dave tuttle » Tue Nov 18, 2014 10:34 pm

Is there a measurement(s) pertaining to what would be the correct placement for the 26 inch long silver Chris Craft decal that is affixed to the hull on a 1948 Chris Craft 17 foot deluxe runabout?

Thanks for your help.

It goes on the second plank down from the top and the star is even with the front opening of the cockpit. Look at your hull card, some of them say decal and some where painted.

Would the placement be the same for my boat and what is the size of the letters?

tuobanur, it looks like yours would be forward a little bit and the star should be even with the forward upright of the side windshield bracket. The size of the letter is determined by how long Chris * Craft logo is. I believe there is only really 2 sizes for the decal that you can get from Classic Boat. at this time I don't have a boat in here with with the logo on the side to measure.

T,
If you are referencing your 1941 and unless your hull card says otherwise then the logo should be hand applied aluminum leaf. Don Ayers used to have the stencil.

Thanks, my plans are to have it painted on in gold leaf.

Terry,

Was there any evidence on the original planks ?

Even though my original decal was long gone, when I stripped the varnish and stain the fact that it was there discolored the wood enough to leave a faint outline making it possible to determine size and location.

Thanks for the quick reply regarding my subject question. Just the answer I was looking for to apply the decal to my 48 deluxe runabout. FYI - my hull card states a decal.

No evidence on the original planks, but from some pics I found and the comments here I think I have a pretty good idea where they go, size is my only concern now..........."that's what she said" :D

Terry,

My capital "C" is 3 inches high. The lower case is proportional and the "f" should not drop down to the next lower plank. If the plank seam opens up your lettering will go with it.

Same goes for a decal.
