1930 20 ft Model 100

Post by Jim Godlewski » Sun Feb 08, 2015 10:31 am

Hello All,
My brother and I recently added to our collection a 1930 20 ft model 100. This is a project boat with some of the work completed by the previous owner. Everything needs to be inspected once we uncover her in the spring.
I’m trying to understand what is written in the Dest. cell on the hull card.
Thanks

It looks to me that it was delivered in the water with 15 gallons of fuel to go to Belle Isle.

I'm not sure where on Belle Isle this boat would have gone. Maybe to the Detroit Yacht Club?

I'm wondering if it went to the Gregory Boat Company?

I think this is a different company ran by Hacker. Very near the same location as Gregory Boat Company.

" In 1914, approximately, Hacker returned to Detroit and founded the Hacker Boat Company at
323 Crane Avenue. His runabout designs for Gregory's Belle Isle Boat & Engine Company were
soon to bring great success to the firm"

Was it going for a photo shoot? The Yacht club was used for CC advertising. Maybe it could be seen in a 1930/31 brochure/catalog

Cool boat and looks like a fun project. I have done several of these in different sizes so if you need any information please give me a call. It was definitely a drive away. when the ice was clear in early May with 15 gal. of fuel. They didn't go far so my guess would be Bell Ilse as well. They made a 17' 20' 22' 24' 26' 28' and a couple of 30' hulls in the style from 1929 to 1931. Some were flat deck until 1930 and some of the 20' had a sloped deck aft.

I am not an expert but I believe the 1930 Model 100's were the only ones with the reverse sloped aft deck. Some called it the "turtleback".

Jim is correct. The model 200 has a flat rear deck.

John and Jim, I haven't researched it heavily but was there any 1929 20' Triples with a sloped deck and I know the 1931 I did had a flat rear deck? I understand the 100 and 200 Model was the difference in the decks. It's fun to try to figure these things out...at least for me.

Hi Jim,

Great to see you and John are going to save another great boat. I would love to see you post photos of the restoration on the chapter web site. I will be anxious to see another boat completed with the same quality a Tight Lines.

I just looked up the 1929 catalog and the smallest runabout was 22'. So it looks like the 1930 20' was the only one with the sloped aft deck.

Hello Greg,
Thanks. Right after the last winter workshop we got all fired up and secured this old gem. Built in Algonac and shipped to Belle Isle. A local boat.
I wondered if this boat maybe went to the Detroit Yatch Club on Belle Isle. I contacted them but no records are on hand.

Once we get her uncovered in the spring the photo web album can start. I will send the photos in.
