My 18' Sportsman hull ID was mis-numbered

Post by rockhounder » Sat Mar 26, 2016 4:35 pm

Well,

On another thread, I was asking about my 18 foot sportsman Utility Deluxe, and the Oregon state registration read U-81-1152

Folks here told me that that was probably a typo from Oregon state, as the correct ID should read U-18-1153 (as it is a 18 foot long boat, rather than an 81 footer.)

I just noticed my hull Id, on the bow, and it says U-81-1152

Has anyone ever come across this situation before, and could it have any meaning, for some technical Chris Craft factory note, or different buildout?

Is there another location where the hull id is stamped? I would like to see if the number stamped anywhere else would be same, or reversed.

My hull I'd is V15-970, this is stamped on my engine box plate and in the keel between the shaft log and the bolts for the strut. But on my bow much like yours the hull id is different and is stamped as V17-970. V"x" denotes the length, mine is a 15' but I always thought it was unique that the bow had a different hull id stamped into it. I've wanted to call the maritime museum to see if they have any information on the bow hull ID but haven't yet!

The hull number stamper guy was reassigned to engine assembly. Shortly thereafter "counter" rotation was discovered.
