New bottom time, maybe.

Post by Scott Young » Tue Oct 21, 2014 1:53 pm

Well, that time has finally come. Or I think it has. My '52 Riviera definitely needs bottom work, maybe a new bottom. So I need somebody good to have a look at it and give me some advice. The boat and I are in Santa Barbara, California and closer is obviously better. Any suggestions?

Get five references, and not just from the restores friends, and a contract with time line goals to be met, and a written overage percentage that is exceptable. Unless they are one of the big name restorers, I would never go with one I could not pop in on to see how the work is going, and no photos on every step to verify, no money!!!!!!! Choose a restorer like you would like to chose your Daughter's first date. Verify X 200 to many of us have been burned in this hobby , and not just newbies which would be really easy. Don't get me wrong on the East Coast where I am you have Danenberg, Bunda, Jerry Lacompte, Katz, and others that will be fair with you and give you a great job. Long Island NY. you might want to stay away from. Don't know about the West Coast. Just do your homework, talk to guy's in your local club, and remember knowledge is the key. Know what is suppose to be done and how it is suppose to be done CORRECTLY.

As a restorer myself if I needed to have a boat restored and lived in California the only one I would go with is Robinson Restoration in Fallbrook Ca. They have been doing it a long time and are excellent craftsman, honest and one of the most knowledgeable in the business. Email at: [email protected]

You want a restorer who has been castrated?

So with that statement no restorer would be good enough for your boat.

Jim did you read my "WHOLE" statement before work, or after you drug your tired @ss home:) and only caught bits and pieces. Didn't mean to leave you off the who's who list.

Hey, you guys are hijacking my thread. 8) Thanks for the input. I'll get in touch with Robinsons, and if anybody else has other suggestions...
Thanks,
Scott
