getting ready to roll over u22 for new bottom

Post by HappenMaker » Mon Nov 17, 2014 12:39 pm

well now that i have removed the engine and steering wheel i am ready to roll the boat for its new bottom. still not sure which direction to go. as i am in so-cal and intend to use the boat in the ocean with a fresh water cooling system.

5200

epoxy

now the real question is the best way to flip it? im in an outside area so using ceiling beams is out of the question.

has anybody used a gantry and a back hoe with staraps and a bunch of friends?

Get the ceiling boards off - brace across the hull at or near the sheer with 2 X 4's, get a bunch of friends and some old mattresses or tires, and roll it over. Nice if you can do this on a lawn also.

Bales of hay work too.

Ok, here is my solution.....keep always in contact with the mother earth...hence the wheel of 2 by wood attached to the transom through the exhaust holes using a ratchet strap arrangement....NOTE..this early "wheel" is ply and particle board...that collapsed...but I had the hay bales under her at all times with the tires too....then I made a new wheel of 2X material and kept if for other use....it worked fine....but a lesson...these boats are HEAVY....that's why I don't trust the suspended rollovers
and then the front end loader.
Put the "wheel" inside one of those caster type heavy duty appliance dollys and you can roll it around too.

yes that is the THING....if you don't have the room to roll this INSIDE your shed it is a more problematic approach. So I pull the boat out of the she and then just put down 1/2 plywood sheets, roll the wheel on them.....pick up the wheel a bit....place the caster dolly under...brace it some...and you can then drag the stern in any direction plus you can just pick up the bow end with the tractor and push the whole deal back into a shed.....the whole point here is to always remain in contact with the ground...a concept we can be glad the Wright brothers ignored...but still good practice for use boat flippers.
