Hi guys,
I have a question that I would like opinions on.
Yesterday I re-installed the gas tank in the Commander and as I am admiring my progress I realized that there is a lot of open space under the tank and I had a thought that I could install a tank drain so I could have the option of draining crud or water without having to have the tank pumped if there were ever a need.
What are your thoughts? good idea or not?
Craig

Re: Gas tank question
Personally I wouldn’t do it. Any time you add a penetration and fitting into a fuel tank you have another potential future leak. Real bad, especially if the leak is in the bottom. BOOM!

Re: Gas tank question
I agree w/ Joanroy, That is the reason the went to a pickup tube thru the top of the tank. Any hole in the bottom of a gas tank intentional or unintentional is asking for big trouble.
Boats are to be made of wood, otherwise, God would have grown fiberglass trees.

Re: Gas tank question
Honestly that was my first thought too. I was just wondering if anybody had the opinion that it was worth the risk.
Thanks guys.

Re: Gas tank question
If I am not mistaken a drain in the bottom of the tank is against Coast Guard Regs.

Re: Gas tank question
I like the thought but not the execution of a drain fitting. With the vertical tank baffles, it is tough to suck any crap out completely but the risk of a gravity drain fed fuel leak is too much to have.
