So I'm busy cleaning the bilge of my little ski boat and I come across a piece of metal (see photos). It was sitting unattached to anything half submerged in bilge water in the narrow area just to the side of the main engine compartment. I'm not sure what that area's called, it's the space through which the water inlet hose travels and is accessed by a small removable piece of floorboard just to the right of the engine. The metal seems to be brass and it shows some wear at the tips of those bullhorn looking bits. The only marking I can find on it is a "3" all by itself.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Nate

It stops the rudder from turning too far.

rudder "stop"
Jim,
Do you know when CC started to use this rudder stop? My 56 Custom Runabout uses a large square headed screw near the steering arm to stop its travel. The screw seems to be original as I have seen it on other 56 runabouts. I came across one of these same brass stops and am considering installing it. Any thoughts?

Tom,
No idea when they started. If you don't force the wheel when it hits the screw you should be OK. It worked for the first 50+ years.
