Keeping your powerboat under power is a lot easier with good advice. Post your power systems questions here.

www.aomci.org is a good place to learn about vintage outboard motors. The "DR" is nicknamed the "dockbuster." There is NO neutral. You start her in gear - so you better be pointed in the right direction. To go from forward to reverse you shut the motor off, flip a switch, throw her into reverse and restart the motor. Hopefully she starts!

Not sure what year boat you have. The 1963 Sunlounger XL150 was rated for up to 85 HP. The 1964 Sunlounger XL155 was rated for up to 90 HP. Same for the 1965 model year. In 1966 she became the Sport-V and was still rated for 90 HP.

Hope this helps.

Saw a good example last Sept of how this engine earned its name. The dock and boat survived but not without help from observers. It does provide good incentive to keep her tuned up.

No, you cannot start a water cooled engine without it being in the water. You get the boat in the water, get all ready for departure, point in the direction you want to go, start her up, and hopefully she starts and continues to run. You are off and running!
