Correct anchor weight

Post by MillsyTheKiwi » Sat Jul 07, 2018 8:35 am

Hi everyone,

Christ Craft newbie here. I own a 1984 Scorpion 210SL and love her! I want to install a Minn Kota Deckhand electric anchor winch on the bow, but in order to do so I want to make sure I have the correct anchor for the boat. Could you recommend the correct weight and type of anchor that will be the most effective?

Is the Minn Kota the best choice or are the Trac anchor winches better?

Many thanks,

Can't comment on best choice of windlass. The Danforth style anchor is the most popular overall. Size to match boat and expected conditions. Don't forget an appropriate length of leader chain. This will make any size anchor feel much bigger. The expected bottom conditions may suggest a different style. For example, some prefer a "plow" style for heavy grassy bottoms.
