Hi all, I'm working on my current project-A 1968 23 Commander and want to add the original lifting eyes/rings.
Is there anyone out there that has a set they would be willing to part with?

Thanks for the reply Jim,
I don't have any hardware yet. The boat was never equipped with lifting rings I just want to add them. I'm not sure if they were even offered on these boats but I thought I would start asking around.

I would figure out a secure way to attach them to the boat first. Wood boats that length usually had 3/4" lift rods.

I just replaced the originals on our 1969 Cavalier Ski boat. I still have the originals if you aren't worried about being top quality... One is a little bent but otherwise a good polish would clean them up.

I bought a set from classic boat connection and then drilled and tapped for the larger threaded rod.

I would definitely suggest you figure out how you are going to install them securely as you will probably need to buy, or fabricate, the Chris Craft bracketry that ties them into the keel and stringers.

You hit the nail on the head Brian, I guess I should have been more specific. I'm looking for the original Chris Craft bracketry. I have a spare set of rings and rod is easy to come by but the brackets I'm sure are unique to certain boats.

They were offered as an option in the price list for the 1973 models. I don't know if they were offered for the earlier boats. But the basic hull never change during the run.

Can't say for sure if factory available but we never had lift rings on Lancers. By that time few glass boats had traditional style deck lift rings. We installed a lot of them though. There were and likely still are components available for the bow set up. If not already there, a heavy duty dual shank stainless bow eye (like would be used for towing or trailer winching) will need to be installed. On the inside a bracket assy will be secured by the eye shanks that will support a threaded rod that will attach to a deck lift ring.

On the stern we would fabricate an "L" bracket (heavy material with gussets) that can be secured to the "meaty" part of the transom to support the shaft and deck ring. We also attached to other secure points as the circumstances required. Perhaps the best way is to check out a modern ski boat that still installs factory lift rings.

We also installed stern eyes and made "v" straps for lifting. Same for bow.

As I recall, chris craft didn't install eyes suitable for lifting in transom either.

Thanks Greg,
I appreciate your input into this idea.
I guess if they were not a regular thing i probably would not try to install them, I don't need them except for working under the boat or if I wanted to take the boat off the trailer. I know I could design brackets that would work but I really want the boat as original as possible so I will leave well enough alone and stop looking for more things to spend time and money on. :D
