1956 Continental Crash pad details
I am getting ready to finish the interior on my 18' Continental, and since nothing in the interior is original, I need some help. There is a ton of great detail here on the seats, thank you all! As for the crash pad, it looks like there is a welt underneath and hide-em on the top surface, correct? Does anyone have details on what happens at the back? I would love a picture of how it terminates at the back and what goes behind the seatback. Thanks! Also, JoAnne Fabrics (of all places) has a black alligator vinyl for very reasonable. Has anyone seen it that could comment on how appropriate it might be?

Steve, I would be skeptical of using a vinyl from a retail store. Unless it is sold specifically as a marine vinyl, it most likely won't have the UV resistant properties necessary for the marine environment. You wouldn't want to spend all that time and work only to have it fade and crack in a year or two.
Good luck,

Thank you, both, for the feedback, especially the pictures. I am most interested in how the rear corners are finished, near the top of the rear seat back. Regarding the vinyl, back in the day, there was no 'marine vinyl' so they just used automotive vinyl. This boat will spend most of it's time in a boat house, and covered, only coming out when it's time to play, so it shouldn't be as sensitive to the UV. At least that is what I am counting on?

Don't have a photo but the crash pad is tapered at the stern to allow clearance for the rear seat back. Hopefully someone will post a detail photo.

Hi Steve I wonder if there will be a perfect one in Port Huron next week at the big show. Then you can ask folks in person. The guys at Woodies Restorations might have a kit and they do have the knowledge-http://www.woodiesrestorations.com/divisions.html
