Re: Ceiling board screws
The silicon bronze oval head are the correct ones to use but I'll just add a suggestion; if you're not overly concerned with winning a trophy and want to provide easier future varnish refinishing, a cup washer like I have pictured makes removal of the ceiling boards easier in the future. Chris Craft did not use these washers back in 1946. Once the oval head screw has been holding the covering board for a while, removing the screw tends to tear out the varnish making a varnish freshen-up more of a job. Lyman used these and it makes a refinish job much easier. Once installed they are hard to see unless you're looking for them.

Re: Ceiling board screws
A matter of personal taste if used with the stainless washers. However, once washers are used they do recess/cut into the wood due to tightening and the general flexing of a wood boat.Denis D wrote:Shouldn't they be chromed?

Re: Ceiling board screws
Statuary bronze, not Silicon bronze. Call Ron at Top Notch Fasteners. Use #6 size
Silicon bronze was not used until much, much later and for flathead construction screws, not oval finish screws.

Re: Ceiling board screws
It seems to me to be a muddled manner of finishing. Statuatory bronze plating, from what I read, is a chemical not plated finish.

Re: Ceiling board screws
Sorry, I should have said statuary bronze plated.
It is a dark brown finish like old bronze statues have.
Originals were statuary brass. Nowadays they are plated (acid dipped) silicon bronze or steel. Either is fine for ceiling board screws and look the same as the originals (although the originals were actually #7 but thats another story)
Statuary not Statutory.
