Classic Boat, Yacht & Car Festival in Long Beach, CA

August 1st 10am - 4pm

This is a great event held in Shoreline Village next to the Yardhouse.
The Yacht Club and the City of Long Beach do this up right and throw an excellent Happy Hour and Awards dinner at the club for all entrants.

If you have a pre 1965 boat bring it down for the show and then come over and party with us on "Arrivederci".

How about yesterday's press release that Allen Jackson is actually going to be at Clayton to see his boats (5) sell at the auction. Would love to be there. Wonder if he'll play and sing a tune or two for the crowd ? Maybe someone will get us some pictures.

Does the Brass Bell have anyone covering this event today? An interview and photos of Allen Jackson with his boats would be great content for a future issue.

His boats have shown up at various venues but he doesn't attend them. This is rare.

We've been trying to involve Alan Jackson for years. I have a contact in Nashville who knows Alan Jackson's agent quite well. In fact I was given his contact info and we have followed up with him. Nothing yet, but it could happen that Mr. Jackson is a member of ours someday.

I understand that he is a VERY private person and watches his exposure very carefully. I heard that he arrived at Clayton, stayed on the Burger until a short newscast, spoke his bit, and then went back onto the boat.

He probably would not find much peace in boating if he loosens up much!

I prepared a landscape plan for his new home (Sweetbriar) in Franklin, Tennessee. I'm guessing that was back in late '96 or early '97. I took pictures of the house in progress to use during plan prep. I remember seeing a CC Grand Prix (among others) in the detached garage which was already finished. I dealt only with the general contractor as, yes indeed, he is a very private person and does not avail himself of many encounters with strangers.

Bill:

I recall our prior efforts to capitalize on Jackson's interest in boats. I was surprised to hear he was showing up for a show and auction. Wonder if anybody captured the interview on tape? Since Baldwin is in NY for the Summer, and Clayton is the oldest of the shows if not also one of the bigger ones, I assume he drove over. Wonder if he got anywhere near Jackson. I guess I ought to be patient and just wait for my Fall Brass Bell...Guess my current issue ought be in my mailbox anyday now...It looked great on line but it always nice to have it in hand.

Mark, this appears to be a wandering thread. Sorry. The most recent issues are coming on line soon as part of the most recent batch of archive content we are working on.

Hi Mark,
Speaking of the wandering thread...........how is your CC17'BB coming along? Its unusual to have adjacent BBs (71923/71924). Best to you.

My engine is on the bench ready to go back in. Need to tidy up for 2010 with bright coats and various adjustments.

Cheers.
