Quincy Classic Boat & Outboard Show

Post by Al Benton » Thu Sep 10, 2009 9:00 pm

The 9th Annual Quincy Classic Boat & Outboard Show is September 19-20, 2009 in Quincy, Illinois. It is sponsored by the Quincy Boat Club. This event has been growing each year as it is gaining popularity from Missouri, Iowa and Illinois boaters and collectors. It shares the Mississippi Riverfront with other community festive events within easy walking distance of each other.

If you're looking for a fun and relaxing weekend destination, come to Quincy. You won't be disappointed.

Jim,
They don't have a website. You can call Todd Young 217-224-4718 or Rob Ebbing 217-257-7400. Give one of them a call. It's an ACBS & AOMCI sanctioned event that has gained local fame over the years, it's free, no admission or registration fees, Friday evening diner (free will donation), Quincy Microtel offering special show rates. It's a fun event.

Five classic Chris-Craft cruisers from the St. Louis area (including mine) will be there along with several trailered boats from our local ACBS Chapter. The Quincy Boat Club members have a nice collection of classic boats and outboards that includes a very nice 1946 Gar Wood Ensign. I would guess there will be 45-50 boats, maybe more.

The cruisers are leaving the Alton pool Thursday morning and plan to be at the Quincy Boat Club in time for diner Friday evening.

The St. Louis to Quincy cruise and the boat show were great fun. The cruise was around 230 miles total and went without any problems. We managed to lock through the 4 dams 8 times without waiting. We were delayed for a while at a rotating railroad bridge but not long enough to require dropping anchor.

There were 54 boats on display at the show, a new record for the Quincy Boat Club. The Club has two wonderful facilities, one on the Quincy riverfront and one about 4 miles upstream on Hogback Island. We went to the Island Club for diner Saturday evening. The cruisers came in handy for taking guests to the island. The folks there sure know how to host a fun boat show.
