Mariners' Museum "Ahoy!"

Post by Al Benton » Thu Apr 15, 2010 2:12 pm

One thing that I look forward to receiving in the mail (besides the Brass Bell) is The Mariners' Museum quarterly publication "Ahoy!". On the cover is one of the museum's prized possessions in their Small Craft Center, the 1925, 10-passenger, 26 foot "Miss Belle Isle", the earliest known Chris-Craft boat in existence today.

It was donated to the museum, along with the Chris-Craft Archival Collection in 1986 by Chris-Craft Industries.

The publication includes a very well written article about the collection as well. Although there is no mention of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club included, there is a photo of Robb Cutchins of the Chris-Craft Commander Club presenting a $1,000.00 donation check to the Library/Chris-Craft Archives. Receiving the check are Jim Hooker, the volunteer that many of us have communicated with, Patti Hinson, Director, Museum Library and Willian Cogar, Museum President & CEO.

Many of us Chris-Craft owners think of the Chris-Craft Collection as being a significant part of their Library Collection. In reality it's only a small percentage of the overall library, much less the entire museum collection. Still, it's the part that we are most interested in. It's rare indeed for the museum to feature the Chris-Craft Archive in their quarterly "Ahoy!". In fact, this may be the first and possibly the only time they do so.
