Vintage Newsletter - Time to plan/register for summer events

Post by Bill John » Sat May 01, 2010 5:49 am

Good morning Gang,

The spring season is in full bloom here in beautiful Wolfeboro, a time of rebirth. The
snow is long gone, the temps are getting warmer, the trees have fresh buds, the grass
is getting greener, and we are looking forward to another summer of fun at our many
vintage events. It is a magical time of the year as we finish our winter shop projects,
begin to pull our beloved vintage wooden boats from winter storage, and begin our
spring launching ceremonies and celebrations.

And to get us out of the shop, tomorrow we will be trekking over to visit Ruth & Leo
Croisetiere at R&L Engines for a shop tour. All are invited, and we will be leaving
from our shop at 11 o'clock, after our regular Saturday Morning Gathering. It's about
a 30 minute trek to R&L Engines in Dover, so we should arrive in plenty of time for
our noon feeding, and Ruth is gonna feed us ???!!!

But Ruth needs a head count, so please reply to this email ASAP if you want to join
all the fun, and we will save a spot for you.

Tavares Vintage Race Boat Regatta
After many years of wanting to make the Mt Dora/Tavares ACBS boat show and many
years of excuses, this spring we finally made the trek south to sunny and warm Florida.
We hauled My Precious to participate at both the Tavares Vintage Race Boat Regatta
and then the Tavares Antique & Classic Boat Show the following weekend. The weather
was sunny and warm, the vintage race boats were beautiful and fast, and we had a great
time. Many thanks to Dick Whyte and the entire CRA crew for a fantastic vintage event.
We had a great time and now Tavares in on our annual spring schedule, so look for our
NH Navy again at Tavares in 2011. Here is the link for a full recap and lots of photos !!!

Special Vintage Events !!!

Here are two very special vintage events that you don't want to miss.

37th Annual ACBS Antique & Classic Boat Show - July 23-24, 2010
Our annual Antique & Classic Boat Show at the Meredith public docks is a huge gathering of
beautiful antique and classic wooden boats, with large crowds and over 80 vintage wooden
boats on display all day in a judged competition. This is quite a sight to behold, and for a
special treat get to the docks early on Saturday morning to watch and listen as the vintage
boats arrive under their own power. There will also be a large static display of vintage race
boats. The sights and sounds are magnificent, and to get an idea of the magnitude of this
gathering of wooden boats, please take a moment to view our photo album from last year's
show. Chris Craft will be the marque boat this year and we are expecting a large showing
of Chris Craft Wood antique and classic boats. Tony Mollica, author of Chris Craft Boats
will also be our special guest at the Awards Dinner on Saturday night, and will give a talk
on Chris Smith and his very special boats. As usual, the weather forecast for our 37th
Annual Boat Show at Meredith will be sunny and hot, as we fill the Meredith public docks
with our beautiful vintage boats. Here is the link for all the details.

Antique Race Boat Regatta at Clayton, NY - August 12-15, 2010
Back in the early ‘90’s some nostalgia buffs with old race boats were musing about the
success of the Antique Boat Show at the Clayton Antique Boat Museum. The idea to hold
a similar event with vintage race boats was tossed out and caught hold. Bill Munro chaired
a large group of committed enthusiasts who hosted the first ever Vintage Race Boat Regatta
in August of 1992. Eighteen years of this biennial event have brought together some of the
greatest names in racing and likewise many of the most famous boats of all time. Such greats
as Riggs Smith, Bob Schroeder, Fred Alter and Buddy Byers were on the original organizing
committee. Many others were in critical positions making it all happen. Over the years the
Vintage Race Boat Regatta has given owners, drivers, historians and public an opportunity
to see the greatest boats of all time performing in the water with dramatic rooster tails and
the roar of powerful engines. This summer will be the 10th Anniversary of Race Boat Regatta
at Clayton. We hope many of the boats that attended the very first regatta as well as those
that came out of barns and storage sheds over the years will be with us doing vintage fly-bys
on the museum waterfront. Here is the link for all the details:

Spring Romp & Spring Gathering - June 12, 2010
This is a spring gathering of our local ACBS membership, and a celebration of our beautiful
wooden boats. The afternoon begins with a Spring Romp, meeting at the Wolfeboro public
docks at 1 PM for a scenic cruise. The route will depend on weather and water conditions.
After our Spring Romp, we will gather at the home of Charlie & Ilona Train for a cocktail
party, live music and a catered dinner. Lots of good friends, food and drink.

Saturday Morning Gatherings
If you get a chance, please stop by and join our Saturday Morning Gatherings. We provide
fresh pots of coffee, shop projects to discuss, a big screen TV and usually have some vintage
boat racing videos playing in the background. If you want to join our therapy group, put on
your grubbies and come join the fun. We usually have around 15/20 vintage wonderers
attending, with a couple of rocking chairs, hot coffee, way too many donuts, and lots of good
vintage boat banter. Please join us, the coffee is usually ready by 9 AM, please bring donuts !!!
