convertible top/mooring cover for 18' Sea Skiff

Post by lowery66 » Fri Jun 27, 2014 12:31 pm

Hi All,
Well, after 3 1/2 years on a boat lift in my garage, my buddy and I finally completed the work of replacing the bottom of my 1959 18' Sea Skiff. This was my first boat project and as you all know it's thrilling to see the boat back in the water! I'm now looking for a convertible top (with the hardware) and a mooring cover, however. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might find them? I'd love to avoid paying for a custom top if at all possible, though I assume that will be my only choice. I have no idea, though. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks!!
John

Boat looks great! That's a bigger job than I would have tackled espeially on a sea skiff. I also have a 1957 Sea skiff and just recently had a cover made (not cheap $1100) but it looks great and fits perfect....even has Velcro covers over the chocks where the lines run through! I could not find a ready made cover. My next step is also a top.

That's what I figured--thanks for the info. The job was pretty big for a skiff, but I got it for a steal and figured it would be a good first project. Plus, to get to the bay I have to take it through the bayou that runs behind my house-- I figured the skiff would be the perfect boat for that sort of environment...

I wanted a convertible top for my 18' utility so I bought a bimini top from Overtons. With a few adjustments, like removing the front bow and shortening the legs, I was in business. I installed snaps on the top front of the windshield. A good upholstery shop trimmed the front of the top to fit and added the snaps to match mine. When not in use it sits on the deck in front of the windshield.
