So, I am in the process of stripping down my newly acquired 1950 Sportsman 18' and had just a couple questions. I know I have to go back with mahogany for the bottom planks, but would it be blasphemous to use white oak for the thinner inner angled planks? Or are there some other reasons white oak would be a bad idea for that application? I will be painting the entire bilge, so it wont be visible in any way. And I am very new to this, so excuse me if I botch the terminology, but I also noticed that the center bow frame (breast?) seems to be white oak all the way down to just below the waterline where it meets the keel? And the gunnel framing looks to be fir? Any help would be greatly appreciated
