Bottom work

I have a 1959 23' Cavalier and am curious as to if someone has an idea on how to support one side to replace a full section of plywood. Which was damaged by the previous owner who used the wrong trailer and cracked it 4" inboard of the chine. Just looking for options other then flipping it first. Thanks in advance

Have you considered patching rather than pulling a whole section that might still be good? That is an advantage of plywood construction, you can do that. Cutting out a small part is a lot easier.

I wouldn't feel bad about doing it that way. Make sure you glue it well and make some good battens at the seams.

Heck yeah...a patch is the way to go on that job...plywood is easy.

I understand the patch would work well. I guess my thought was if I made the whole bottom new then it could be good for another 50 years with proper maintenance but maybe the rest is still good (havent found soft spots or swelling) and will last longer then what Im thinking in my head lol

Yeah, if you're not finding any delaminations or rot anywhere, I would patch it. Chris Craft used the best quality marine plywood available, back in those days.

Nemo is right...CC used the best ply available and you would be hard pressed to find its affordable equal today. Patch it and Go Boating...
