Deck Beams

Post by Greg Lichtle » Fri Jan 20, 2006 8:56 pm

I am restoring a 41 18ft cc, My question is 2 of the Oak deck beams over the fuel tank have been notched for a replacement tank. I am making a new tank "round" but now I have to replace the deck beams. From the factory were they steam bent or can I cut the radius?

I'm a little confused by your post. There should not be any oak "deck frames" in the back of a 1941 18'. Those would have been mahogany. The only oak in that area would have been the transome bow, transom uprights and chimes. The answer to your question is that they were not steamed and were cut from the factory. Maybe you could send me an e-mail with a couple of pics until we can upload pics on to Boat Buzz.
