Location of gas tank overflow outlet

Framing, planking and fairing. Repair, or reconstruction. If it's hull related, you'll find it here.

Location of gas tank overflow outlet

Post by George Emmanuel » Tue Mar 31, 2015 7:41 pm

Working on my 1955 17' Sportsman....At the Tavares show there were 2 Sportsman's in attendance, one was a 1955. Both had their gas overflow outlet on the stern. Mine is on the starboard side and the planks are original (I think).

So where is the correct location? Did Chris Craft make changes during the model year?

Personally, I like all the hardware on the stern. It cleans up the sides. I don't know the answer to your question, unfortunately.

Try searching on Google in the Images section, might help.

Good luck,

I would encourage you to investigate but I am pretty sure you are going to find that your side vent is correct.

I like it on the side too. Having it in the transom sometimes messes up the artwork of the name.

Every 17' sportsman I've seen in the CC-17 hull series the gas vent is on the transom. One way you might be able to tell is if the vent is plumb in copper or rubber hose. Copper tubing would be original. If its rubber hose then it's probably been moved.

My hull is the same as the 17 Sportsman and my tank vents to the transom.

You just have to plan your transom graphics right and there is no interference problem.

Here is a shot from inside.
