Will the original 6 volt horn relay work using 12 volts? I'm upgrading my '55 Sportsman to 12 volts.

Re: 6 V Horn relay using 12 Volts
Mine works just fine, only twice as loud
Re: 6 V Horn relay using 12 Volts
That brings up another question if you don't mind. My 58 Cavalier is 12 volts. I bought a nice horn on eBay advertised as 12v which turned out to be 6v when I took it apart. Do I need to change my existing relay from 12 to 6v?? If so, where do I get one?

You can use the existing relay if you add resistance between the relay and horn.

I started with a one ohm, 25 Watt ceramic resistor but the voltage dropped too low for the horn to beep. I added another one ohm resistor in parallel to make it 1/2 ohm and it worked great and yes it is very loud.
Every time I let someone drive the boat they go to change the throttle position and accidently hit the horn button and practically jump out of the seat.
