Horn Relay

Post by HalB » Thu Mar 27, 2008 9:51 am

Does anyone know where I can purchase a horn relay for my '55 Holiday?

All rewiring was completed before heading to North Carolina and appears OK. Rebuilt engine turns over and will be fired up when I return to Cranberry Lake, assuming snow leaves the ground before July! Horn, however, will not sound; and when connected directly to battery gives off some noise. I'm not sure the relay is the culprit, but feel a new one can't hurt.

Have you tested everything to and from the switch/button for the horn?

I'll be interested in replies from the group on this one because I have the same problem.

I bet most of the time it is in the horn button area. I would get a multi meter and put it on ohm's and with the wire going to the horn removed put one lead on this wire and the other lead on the sterring column and have someone push the horn button. If you get a reading when the button is pushed then the button area is fine. Next you can get a new relay at NAPA store. Remember this is switching positive. follow your wiring diagram and all is well.
Hope this helps...

Just use a basic starter solenoid and use it to get the amps to the horn. The solenoid can be hot. And then be grounded from the horn botton to complete the connection. Works for me.
