Charging System

Your old Chris-Craft electrical system can be a challenge. If it runs on "juice" pose your questions and offer your advice here.

Charging System

Post by Skip Frey » Mon Jul 01, 2013 3:59 pm

I have a 1957 17' runabout with the 131 hp. KFL engine. The electrical system has been changed to 12 volt.

Problem: When the boat is running (even with blower and lights off), the battery discharges at every level of rpms, never getting past the centerline and often well below. When I check the voltages on the generator they show at least 12 volt output, yet the battery is significantly discharged after more than an hour's runtime. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Skip Frey

Sounds like your generator is not working properly, you should be getting about 14 volts at the battery.
