Dash Instrumentation/38 17' CC Deluxe Utility

Post by Jackson Cove » Sun Apr 13, 2014 10:02 am

I have hull card indicating CC Model 802 with "Bells and Buoys" instruments. (recently restored by Kocian). I want to install original switches and need source for a Model 95 Clum Switch. Also need help defining other original switches and their location on the dash. Hope for some help!

We can supply a reproduction of the Clum switch that Chris-Craft used. See http://www.californiaclassicboats.com

The pics below show both front and back of the original dash. I labled what I believe is correct. The very large dia hole left of the elipse I believe was added to hold some non-original instrument. The small hole just right of the elipse labled "unk" could be for choke. I believe the larger dia hole right of elipse was for the "clum" switch. Other switches are identified. I could use help defining what was original and where the holes should go.

The original holes would be the clum switch { round hole with to small holes on either side } push button switch for starter, choke and the oval for the gauge panel.

Light switch is on the clum switch. Horn is in the center of the throttle lever.

Thanks Jim. The configuratoin of the dash instrumentation is becoming more clear. I understand the following. Looking at the front of the dash, I see thew three holes right of the steering column: larger hole for the clum switch and the two smaller holes for the push button starter and choke. I do not have a horn in the center of the steering column: only the throttle lever. so question is where would the horn hole have been placed in the original dash.
It is understandable that the original clum switch may have been replaced with a simple ignition switch. Then additional hole drilled to handle the lights. The large hole left of the elipse is not original (most likely aftermarket???) and the the not so large hole to right of elipse also not original (do not know what was there if anything original).
Thanks for the help. I believe I am getting to the bottom of this. :)

Glenn,

Ok. Looking at the dash if you were sitting in the boat. The starter switch is to the right of the steering wheel. The clum switch to the left. Thats the big hole you have now. Clum switches are fairly big. Choke should be the hole you have marked UNK. Can you post a picture of your wheel and throttle lever. I think something might not be right with yours as all the boats had the horn in the center of the throttle lever.

I do not see anyway there can be a horn in the center of the wheel.
Hope the attached helps define the instrumentation placement. I can get better pics if necessary.

Looks like someone put a wood plug or something in the center of the throttle lever. You should have a black horn button there. The wire runs down the center of the tube. See picture.

Jim's right,
and those buttons are hard to come by. Years ago I just added a horn button under the dash. Won't win any shows, but did work.

Glenn,

Heres a picture of my customers 1939 17'. As you can see it has the same panel as yours. The clum switch is to the left of the wheel. The to switches to the left of the panel are not original.

I have the buttons but all the small parts to make it work are the issue.
