Adjusting Belt tension
I just received my rebuilt generator for my K and, after struggling to install it alone, I am wondering if it has the correct tension. Is there any trick to making sure the belt is tight enough?

Mike. I can send you the K (Hercules) manual, but it's too large for this format. If you want it, PM me your email.

This is how I do it: There are 2 bolts. One I call the pivot bolt and the other is the adjuster. First tighten the pivot bolt to the point that it is snug but the generator can still move up and down. Move the generator as much as you can by hand to tighten the belt and then snug the adjuster bolt just tight enough to hold it in place. Now use a small block of wood and a small hammer and tap on the adjuster bolt to put just a little more tension on the bolt. You may have to adjust the bolt tension to get the exact tightness where it can move and still stay in place after you tap it. The belt does not need to be super tight as it does not take much power for the engine to turn the generator pulley. Finish by tightening both bolts.

Re: Adjusting Belt tension
Thanks Doug and Jim. I figured someone had a "trick" to deal with this issue.
