'52 Riviera Stern Navigation Light Wiring

Post by Riviera Wish » Wed Apr 15, 2015 3:03 pm

How and where is the stern navigation light grounded? The 1952 wiring diagram shows ground is to the engine. Could it be via the (grounded) fuel tank?
The reason for the question is that I am dealing with a boat from which all the wiring has been removed.
Appreciate any help that you can provide regarding routing and grounding of stern light wiring, including power wire to the light. Original stern light wire color of an early 1952 Riviera (Jan '52) is also of interest if anyone has specific knowledge.

Usually runs to the rear motor flange by reverse gear. I'd run from the socket to the fuel tank to the engine.

I am not sure about this model but the power wire for the light usually is routed with the rest of the wires from the dash. They would go to the right side of the dash and then down behind the ceiling panel. Then over to the side of the engine stringer and back to the engine. The stern light wire would continue down the stringer until right in front of the tank. Then across to the right side of the boat and up to the deck and along the deck beam right aft of the hatch. Then back to the light.
The ground wire would run with this wire from the engine. The wires from the dash to the engine might be stapled individually to the stringer or they might be in a loom. Not sure when this change came about or if it even did in a Riviera.

Good one Jim,
Remind them, with previous postings, about keeping the electrically activated stern light grounded the same as the fuel tank?
