AMP Meter Hook Up

Post by E-J Ohler » Mon Jun 26, 2006 11:36 am

I have a genereic AMP meter +0-60A and - 0-60A. Just a std. 2-1/2" dial with Zero center and the neg to the left and the pos reading to the right.
How do I hook this up on a Tecumseh 18HP small engine.
Please advise on the buzz or direct to my e-mail
Thanks
E-J

Hi EJ,
I know little about electricals but let me try to answer. I believe Amp meters are supposed to be connected in-line of the output wire of the generator on your motor. I believe it is not necessary for it to be grounded.

Amp Meter Connection

Post by E-J Ohler » Tue Jun 27, 2006 6:52 am

Ed,
Thanks for your reply. That is what I thought too, but the back of the meter shows a Pos(+) and Neg(-) symbol at the two heavy duty hook-ups. There are also two small flat connector terminals which I know are for the instrument light.
Doesn't the generator/alternator wire go directly to the Pos terminal of the battery (the smaller gauge red wire)? Is that the wire I should put the meter in series with?
Thanks,
E-J
