Hi guys,

I have a 1957 22ft sea skiff which has at the moment a 13x12x1 propeller. Originally it must be a 11-1/2x12x1. Can somebody tell me the difference, gives the current one more torque or perhaps a higher topspeed?

perhaps someone cabn advise me?

regards,

steve

Steve,
Correct prop sizing is a science, there are direct relationships between diameter and pitch for each application but a quick over simplification would be that diameter produces torque and pitch produces speed.
There are several places on line where you can give particulars about your boat and they will make recommendations for prop size.
I have an 18' SeaSkiff with a 95Hp "K" engine and that has a 13"DX12"P. which works well overall.

Steve,
You didn't mention what engine you have. See http://www.finewoodboats.com/1966prop50050_wm.jpg for factory specs.

According to the list an 11 1/2X12 would be correct. Also check 12X12 as some that have been restored several times loose diameter.

It sounds like you have the same problem that I had with my prop. Too large diameter which means extra torque for initial start up power at the expense of achieving high RPMs and top end speed.
