Is it standard procedure to replace the electric oil sending unit during a rebuild?

No. The sending unit has to be matched to the gauge. The rebuilder would need the gauge to be sure it is correct.

Thanks Jim,
Mark Clawson is rebuilding my gauges and has new sending units. He will supply a new unit and calibrate to the new gauge.
