1960 Cavalier transmission-reverse gearbox

I bought a nicely restored 1960 Cavalier back in May. Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question, but it’s not only my first Chris Craft, it’s my first boat of any kind. Is the gearbox using engine oil from the crankcase? I can’t find anywhere on the outside of the gearbox to add or check fluid.
