Detailing a '52 KBL Engine

Post by Riviera Wish » Sat Jul 04, 2015 10:00 pm

Would like to get answers to a few KBL engine detailing colors:
Was black color used on starter, generator, etc. a flat black, low gloss black or gloss black?
Were copper oil tubes left natural?
Was fuel pump natural metal color or engine color?
Thanks in advance.

Generator and starter are glossy black. Copper tubes are natural, and water pump is engine blue. This is what my KLC is. Am not sure on the KBL.

We tend to over restore our engines today despite the reality that these engines were originally finished with speed in mind rather than detail. Everything was painted (including hoses, clamps, and rubber motor mounts) except for starter, generator, distributor, wires, and coil. The rest was painted a glossy black that looked more like semi gloss when finished due to low build and dry spraying. Black parts were masked off in a hurry and as such were not completely black. For example the flanges on the starter and gen motors remained blue and often even the body of these components had some blue. Keep in mind all were painted with these parts installed.
