water intake scoop - facing forward or aft?
I have two boats (description below). One has the scoop facing forward and the other aft. Both boats have had a “no soak” bottom applied so I’m not sure which way the scoops were facing originally. Could someone tell me what the proper orientation should be?
Thanks

Before you turn any of them around to face forward, be sure its a water intake and not your bilge syphon or another outlet.

Thanks for the replies. It’s definitely the scoop for the water pump I’m asking about.
This is the deal. I got the 1960 (scoop facing aft) about 4 years ago and got it in the water last summer. I assumed the scoop was right so that’s the way I left it. I have put about 15 hours on the 1960 with no overheating issues. I recently purchased the 1959 and noticed the scoop was facing forward. That’s when I asked the question here. I was thinking maybe the scoops were supposed to face aft so that too much water wouldn’t be “forced” up to the water pump impeller at high speeds. Evidently, having the scoop facing aft enables the water pump to suck up enough water to keep the engine cool,,, or maybe I just got lucky. Think I’ll turn it around anyway if that’s the way it should be.
Thanks again,

Re: water intake scoop - facing forward or aft?
Revisiting this old post to clarify the position of the water intake through hull fitting. I did this procedure several years ago but with my boat currently kept out of state I can't readily look at it for reference. I am ready to install one on a current restoration that I initially disassembled some 5 years ago and I can't remember which direction this fitting faces. I have hundreds of pre-restoration photos that I took but this one . The response here is that the water intake faces forward but that is not my recollection of my previous boat's location. So just to be clear, I'd like to hear from anyone else that in fact this fitting is supposed to face forward and not aft.
