Yes. You defiantly need an original set of lines. If you use tubing smaller then 1/2" you run the risk of damage to the engine bearings. As the engine oil passes through the cooler before going to the bearings.

With oil nowadays you really don't need a cooler. To get rid of the cooler you have to pull the pan off the engine then remove the oil pump and take the block off plug out of the block. Then plug up the hole on the bottom of the pump that has the tubing running to the side of the block. With this done the port on the block will just be used for the oil gauge. Get a DOT rated compression fitting from Mcmaster-Carr and hook it up.
