Correct Interior Stain Color

Post by maritimeclassics » Wed Jan 20, 2016 5:03 pm

Can someone give me the stain manufacture and color for the interior of a 1961 25' Constellation? I purchased this boat about 3 months ago and I am replacing a bulkhead and need to match the stain to the rest of the boat. I have seen this color in almost all the Connie's over many years buy I never had a job where I needed to re-stain so hopefully someone out there knows.
Thank you,

Mike, Look in the Archive - Marketing Literature - 1961 Chris-Craft Full Line Catalog - Page 9 for a color rendering of the interior of a 25-foot Constellation. It shows no stain , but possibly a greenish paint finish on the entire interior including the bulkhead.

Sorry, the previous post was from me. I had just updated an old account and made sure that it was working. Now I'm me and not ccmahogany.

Al, I just looked at the photo and that must have been an option to paint the interior but my is all original and most everything inside is varnished wood. I was under the impression that they stained the wood on interiors before they varnished. I'm not sure it would look right if I just varnished without applying some color to it. It is odd to me that no one has any information on this with all the cruiser restorations on this site.

Mike,
Take a piece of wood you are trying to match to a Sherwin Williams store and they can match the stain color. I did this with some kitchen cabinets and they matched it perfectly. Good luck. Dan

Mike, all interior mahogany in the 1960, 27-foot Connie that I had was stained a slightly lighter shade than the CC Red exterior bright work. I didn't have need to re-stain any of it in my tenure with her though. I just maintained what was already there. This color may have changed in later models. There was a '62 Connie in the same marina that had a stained interior that was a few shades lighter than mine, but definitely not just varnished mahogany.
