Wood Sliver Glue

Post by Tom Gruenauer » Sun Apr 24, 2016 9:03 am

Looking for a glue to fix a sliver I pulled up on my cover board. Philippine Mahogany no stain sanded to 100 grit. It is a bit long but only .005 / .010 deep. Photo is deceiving.

Will the epoxy block the stain? Light Spot?

Depends on how well the sliver that came out fits back in. If it fills completely then the only exposed epoxy should be a barely noticeable hair line around it. Epoxy won't take stain so you may see that little line a bit after stain and varnish. On Woody Boater today the use of Smiths Fill It is discussed. Says it takes stain. You could look into that product as another option. I've never used it. Good Luck!

I keep a supply of mahogany dust from my sanders. I mix this with wood glue to fix problems like this.

Ditto. Old school fix. 8)

Cyanoacrylate, the main chemical in superglue will penetrate into the fibers of surrounding wood. IMHO I would not think that one can stain that well over it.
