Pic 1933 15.5 Split 4-43 CC/Gray GUAGE Poll

Post by Mark Campbell » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:04 pm

My 1933 was named "Split Decision" long before it has been restored. I bought this runabout many years ago from Gary and Ingrid Scherb. They had received her on a package horse trade for a different Boat sale. It was stored on a second floor perch when I first saw her. They did not work on her but it was apparent someone had replaced the deck and dash.

The dash is uncut and could receive any era proper bezel or gauge set I desire. What I desire is what was originally in her however it was not delivered with gauges.

This poll is to help me make a decision as well as listen to discussion as to how I should approach this in the future. The picture is of three gauge panels I have laying in storage. I thought one or the other may look very nice once restored but can not decide nor do I have the knowledge of which would be correct. Your discussion is welcome and will help me decide if any of these will be used.

Please participate.

The purpose of this post is too find out what gauges should be in this dash. The 1933 15,5 raised center is a very rare style and I have nothing to go by. Normans split that travels around has a Gray marine gauge of some kind. I remember having a discussion with him about it being replaced sometime. There is nothing out there about this boat. So...I am hoping one of you with greater knowledge will step in with some words. The poll is too generate general opinion...its free ya know :)

hmmm 43 views ....1 vote...realy? No one here with even a hint of history?

I should not be too surprised by not receiving some information. The Split in the 15 foot size for some reason just does not exist. I knew when I saw the raised hatch on this tiny pre war looking toy that she was a must have. I also was going to have to except (unlike a triple) , that information would be far and few. I contacted the Mariners Museum yesterday and will see what their research finds. Until then , just look at the picture and then go to the top of this post and click on one of the choices. Please :)

I am leaning towards the gauges being separate on the wood. Logically this was a lower cost boat , :) talking to myself here...

I'm not voting because I'm not sure what the right answer is. I like any gauges as long as they are back lit. Love that look of the old radios. :)

Mark,
you could probably use the crinkle finish or
the buoys. I have restored three of the
model 300's, two have had the panel shown below.
