Cleat and Stanchion Screws for 57-foot Constellation
I have looked EVERYWHERE for new cleat and stanchion screws for our 1968 57-foot Connie. We've had all the hardware re-chromed and the old screws ain't gonna get it. But I can't find replacement screws anywhere. I've attached a picture. The best I can calculate, it's a 5/16" diameter screw 2 1/2 inches long with a phillips oval head. The head is 9/16 across. If anyone knows where I can find this particular screw, please let me know. I've already checked with Fastenal, Jamestown Distributors, and countless others. Very frustrating. It's held up our restoration project for a month now.

Monsters! In all my years I don't think I have ever encountered any screws that big! 9/16 across the head? 5/16 at the shaft? wow! You might have to get creative. Investigate bolts maybe? I have seen phillips oval headed bolts in some special uses....then you could drill out and set the bolts in epoxy or something? ???? I went through my bucket of stainless boat fasteners and I saw:
Oval head phillips 1/4 bolts ALL HEAD TYPES
flat head slotted 5/16 bolts WITH 9/16 HEAD
flat head phillips 5/16 bolts WITH 1/2 HEAD
You may have to punt and go that route???
We almost never consider using machine threaded bolts to replace screws...but in fact in new wood or dowel and epoxy applicatons...those finer threads will grip very well if you use the right pilot bit etc etc.
this is an emergency and calls for innovation/experimentation ....
I UNDERSTAND that your priority is to have the heads look and fit right in the stanchion bases......wing it partner.
and many thanks for saving a classic cruiser!
no wonder you are having a tough time locating. Keep us informed.

I bought a bunch of screws from Paul at Woodie's Restorations. He has a big cruiser and can probably help match the size you need.

Phil:
I believe you will find that those are not Phillips, but in fact R & P or Frearson.
I will be interested in what you find as I have been considering some new ones on AB.

yes, clearly Reed and Prince/Fearson...but in my response I took it for granted that those would not be found/available.
