water line replacement

Post by Jim Godlewski » Sun Aug 07, 2016 7:25 am

We have some split copper water lines that need replacing. Should we stay with copper pipe or is there a better choice of materials. This is on a 1970 38ft Connie.
Thanks.

Looks like you had a freeze up. If your replacing all of the plumbing like I did on my cruiser, I'd go with PEX type plastic residential plumbing pipe. Consult with your local plumber regarding brand and connection type. It still needs to be winterized properly, but it's a lot more flexible and easier to snake through tight places. Comes in blue for cold and red for hot.

If you just have a couple of breaks and the rest of the copper looks good just repair the bad sections with copper. Happy Boating!

PEX will also survive freezing events.
