Instrument panel

Panel 1935.JPG
I am beginning a restoration of a 1935 18' Deluxe Utility and I believe this is the correct panel. I love the spinning tachometer. Does anyone restore them? Also I was wondering what the face of the panel should be. Rust was probably not an option! This was a low end boat so maybe just black paint?

If you're not in a hurry to get the gauges done talk to Mark Clawson of Clawson Classic Intruments ( http://markclawson.com ) he restores almost all gauges for anything from cars, boats, and even airplanes!! But he is a one man shop so it takes a long time for him to get them done to his quality level...

Mark Clawson restored my barrel tach (that is what you have) beautifully. I highly recommend but do give him about 1yr to get it back to you.

Hi Jim, sounds like you found someone. I have used mark in the past, excellent result, and I hear good things about Kocian, too.

there is a post here on pre-war dash and instrument panels under research related, i think. If you find a picture of what yours is supposed to look like, it would be great to capture it here and on that post. I wasnt aware that cc used those barrel type gauges, but it is always good to find something new out. Should look sharp when done.

thanks, Jim, a very cool simple early 30's instrument panel. I assume stewart-warner?

Pat powell did my original instrument work and clum switch many years ago. First rate. I am sorry to hear that he is no longer with us.

The instrument panel is super Did you find that the panel was used in any cars? a variation of my sw 4 gauge panel with the engine turned plate, that was in the later 30's runabout, was also used in the Willys car of the period, for example.

Yes, my instruments and the panel were in bad shape but he did an amazing job. I think he was a retired stewart warner guy, living in the midwest somewhere.
