Something cool happened today! The Olympic torch came right by my work on it's way to one of the local festivities. The Olympics start here on Friday, so it's getting pretty exciting. So we shut down for 1/2 hour or so when it came by. I got some pix and thought I'd share with you guys.

Nice pics!
I wish you the best of luck in the Olympics! I'm even rooting for you to win the second most medals!

Are you going to see any events? I understand that hockey is pretty big up there.

Tyson,
Wow!!! What a thrill. Your photos tell it all. As I scrolled down, the excitement began to build. Then off in the distance I could make out the torch coming closer into view. As it approaches the chills begin to tingle, then suddenly the torch is passing by and the thrill and excitement of the moment is overwhelming. It's the Olympic Torch. Congratulations to you and all of Canada.

Yes, I am VERY stoked! I won't be going to any of the enents......actually, I shouldn't say that, I may go get some scalped tix for some speed skating or something. But yes, it almost seems like no matter how many medals we win, if Canada doesn't win hockey gold, then the whole Olympics were a failure. But, then, this is Canada, and I, like millions of others, live for hockey. This will be the greatest hockey tournement of all time. And if Canada wins, there will be a party of biblical proportions in Canada for like a week. I can't wait!
Al, you are right. You described it to a T. It is emotional as the flame goes by, as silly as that sounds. To realize you will never see that again in your life, in your home town, is something else. And to wish my dad was around to see it as well, makes it even more emotional. He, like myself, are both great Olympic fans. I lost him in August, but I know he would have been stoked!!
If I make it down to the villiage and stuff, and get more pictures, I'll be sure to post them for everyone. _________________ 1961 Chris Craft 17' Ski Boat

I have been to 2 olympics, the first in 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway and the second in Atlanta in 1996. The winter olympics to me was much more about the real olympic spirit. As an American, I was one of the very few to make it to Norway, and I can honestly say it was still one of the best moments of my life. In that weekend alone, I got to see Dan Jansen win his first gold medal after many failed attempts, got interviewed on CBS TV and met Kristi Yamaguchi and Bruce Jenner. All in 3 days. What I would say is do whatever you have to do to experience some of the olympic experience. Get to some event, it will be worth it. And again, if the US does not win in hockey, I hope Canada does, especially since my adopted hometown boy, Stevie Y is running things for you guys!

My wife's brother took his dad to the Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada, then he was living in Park City, Utah during the Winter Olympics 8 years ago. Most of the alpine events were practically in his back yard. He told me those two occasions were the highlights of his entire life. This came from a guy who has "done it all", as he put it.
Richard passed away almost 3 years ago. Our home became his Hospice about a year after the Salt Lake City Olympics. He suffered a lung disease that he couldn't fight (not from smoking). He could have watched the Half Pike out his back window, one of the Condos visible on TV was his, but elected to be closer.
He called me one day about a week before the alpine events started practice sessions. He was skiing on one of the slopes above Park City that was convent to ski down to the rear door of a regular watering hole that he frequented. The security for these slopes was already in place and there was the typical yellow tape strung between his location and the bar that he usually liked to end his day at. So he called to let us know he may need help later. He went under the tape and proceeded to the bar as usual, only to find that he was followed by several skiers that appeared from nowhere, fully armed and serious about their mission. When they converged near the bar he merely told them, "Good job, see you tomorrow", took his skis off and went inside. Makes you wonder just how secure those slopes really were.

Although it hurts from my point of view, Congratulations on your hockey victory! It was a great game and a great Olympics!

That hockey game was the greatest game I have ever seen. 4 years of buildup. It was the perfect end to these games. In my home town. To here Chris Cuthbert (our local NHL announcer) make the call, "the golden goal!!" resonates in my head. And will forever. Kinda like "HENDERSON" in the '72 Canada Cup to the generation before me.
What a glorious day....gettin worked up thinkin about it, haha..... _________________ 1961 Chris Craft 17' Ski Boat
