The cup holder that he is referring to is his girl friend wearing a poodle skirt, sitting close beside him and holding his cup because his right arm is around her shoulders (usually holding something else).

Come to think of it I don't recall driving a car or boat and having a cup....Maybe Coke, Pepsi or R.C. Cola in a bottle but I don't recall drinking anything out of a cup in in those days unless it was in the house. I think Starbucks came along after poodle skirts...Guess I led a sheltered life..

You are so right. After thinking about that for a while, in what few vending machines there were in the days of poodle skirts, soda was dispensed in bottles, not cans or cups. Cars and boats didn't come with cup (bottle) holders (unless you were lucky enough to have one wearing a poodle skirt cuttled up next to you).

Well, it's Presidents Day and the mailman stayed home. Maybe he'll grace your mailbox with a Winter 2010 Brass Bell tomorrow.

Well...that was it....My daughter went to work so I disn't realize it was a holiday...Wondered why we haven't gotten any mail yet...I guess that's what happens when you retire...As it used to seem around the Huxtable household (Bill Cosby show) ...Every Day seemed like Saturday.

Now I guess we have put the cup holder issue to rest...

I recieved the winter issue of the Brass Bell Saturday. Great Job! Not sure how you will out do these last couple of issues. Hopefully someone is sending the museum a copy because a hard copy should be part of the CC collection for later years.

This Florida weather better start warming up for you guys coming down for Mount Dora.

Good to hear you got the Winter issue too. I was beginning to think I was alone. It will probably be hot and humid by show time in late March.

Wilson, being retired does develop a tendency to loose track of week days and certain holidays. Hope your BB comes tomorrow. Cup holders, how did we ever do without them?

John, as I've said before, I will never understand the mysteries of Periodical Class mail. On one of our last issues, we had a member in Virginia receive their Brass Bell three days after it left Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For some reason, another member, not more than 5 miles from the first, got his copy 5 weeks later.

Now, you know I have a soft spot in my heart for NJ. I'd never hold out on you guys.

I suspect it is something called Co-Mailing. As I work in a related industry I am amazed as to it's impact on mailed goods.

The USPS must have shuffled their deck or reversed the order this year. I don't recall ever getting my copy early on but did this time.

By the way, Bill, kudos on this last edition. With each issue the quality consciously prompts me to think there is no way the Brass Bell could possibly improve..........and then the magic happens all over again with the next issue. We in the hobby are so fortunate to have a feast so often. Thanks for all you and the others do.

You guys are hilarious! I put the poodle skirt thing on my signature because of a poster that I have. Shown below. My grandparents told me it was the best of times in their lives. Everything was simpler. Anyway, so there is no real answer, just more of a feeling. Cheesy, I know. I'm only 38, and I try to learn and soak in as much about the era as I can, like a sponge.

WEll, I just turned 80 in January and have children older than you...My wife and I are probably the same age as your grandparents....and we all remember poodle skirts and saddle oxfords but back in those days we weren't old enuff to drink beer and I don't think Coke and Pepsi came in cans yet so we had no need for real cup holders. I guess my girlfriend ( now fife) may have cuddled up close and held my Coke but I never thought of her as a cup holder....Glad I got an explanation...
