Welcome to Tavares!

Every so often the executives of The Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club will pose a question asking for your thoughts. Or maybe you have something that you would like to share with us. Step up on the soap box here.

Welcome to Tavares!

Postby Bill Basler » Thu Mar 24, 2011 10:52 am

Well, unfortunately, I am a lowly reporter, keeping us all abrupt of what is happening in beautiful sunny Tavares Florida. I have commitments back here at home, so I was not able to make the trip.

We have other Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club volunteers in position at the show, however, so we should get updates throughout the show weekend.

Today is a set up day. Strangely, in the years I have been there, this is a very busy day at the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club tent, and it appears to be so today.

Don Ayers has already signed up two new members, and the show is not even open yet.

More to come. Current weather in Florida, sunny and 75 degrees F, heading for a high of 88.

Don Ayers is helping get set up along with Woodyboater Matt Smith.

Bill, had lunch today with a young lady who I think said she recently began a tour as editor of the Brass Bell. A very pleasant and personable representative who you are entitled to be very proud of. Incidentally, from what I hear about northern Minnesota excess water you may be getting your feet wet again from cedar water. Our plans on using the Mighty Miss this spring may be going into the tank. dick baner

Don, on a Mac they are embedded directly in the post. In that case you just click on the play button in the center of the video.

On a PC, some have have better luck using Firefox rather than PC.

Dick, I believe you are referring to Angilla. She has been great to work with thus far. I have not met her in person so you are a leg up on me!

So far, we're dry in Cedar Rapids, and river levels are just a bit high. I know the Upper Miss is where they are most concerned. For every day that we do not have significant rain, it is certainly a help. All of our snow is gone and has been for a few weeks. I know north of us they are still melting and dealing with runoff. Fingers crossed for everyone south of us.

There must be some kind of glitch. I have to go to post reply and scroll thru topic review to see them.

Here are a couple more videos from Tavares. The first is of our new Brass Bell Associate Editor Angilla at the helm of an Italian made Sebino.

Sebino was manufactured on the same lake as Rivas, and in fact, utilized Chris-Craft 283s which were purchased from Riva.

Next is an early morning photo shoot for a possible future Brass Bell story. In this video, the shooting platform is Paul and Karen Harrison's 24-foot Sea Skiff.

The photo boat is a Chris-Craft Super Sport. I will have more info about this boat to come. What a screaming fast little boat this Super Sport is.

Thanks, Bill, I was able to view thru the method Capt. nemo suggested. No "click here" element appears in your messages. However, for example, the earlier posts that have the place to click on work fine?

My Java was updated 3 days ago. I don't know about Flash other than what some creep might do in the park  I'll keep looking.

It was a great show...Perfect weather and lots of great boats. Tavares was absolutely the antique boating capital of the world this weekend. Our "beloved leader" got the thrill of a lifetime but I'll let him tell you about that.

What a wonderful weekend at Tavares! I met so many great people; it was such an honor to be able to ride in several boats at the show. I truly had a perfect time at my very first boat show. The weather was amazing, the people were friendly, and the boat rides were endless - thank you to everyone that came out and brought their boats!

The videos are great, especially for those not there.
My camera could do that, if I'd only read the instructions.....I could have gotten several good ones on the way too & from the picnic and those on the river cruise could have sent more...Maybe the next symposium would include a course on photography

Hey Angella,

You handle that boat like a pro! Those were some great maneuvers. What a fun weekend for you. Did you visit the "Field of Dreams" and pick out a boat while you were there? It was a pleasure to meet and visit with you at the show.

Special thanks to Paul and Karen Harrison for the use of their Skiff. Also a big thank you to Captain Reg Down. It was a ton of fun for sure.

Note: If you want to watch these video's in HD (after you click play it shows up) just select the 720P at the bottom of the You Tube video bar. It will take longer to download but worth it. Also you can click on the far right and view it full screen. Do this if you are watching the 720P version.

Does that 1940 Red and White love the camera or what!!!

Angilla:

Good to meet you at Tavares...and enjoyed working the tent with you.

There is a neat article in the current Apr/May issue of BoatUS entitled. A Look Back In Boating Time. If you are not yet a member of BoatUS get Bill's copy the next time you are at the club headquarters. You'll find some interesting facts and maybe some Brass Bell material there.

For me, the highlight of the Sunnyland Show this year was having the opportunity & privilege to work with Don Ayers and Angilla Baccus on the Brass Bell photo shoots each morning.

Jumping out of bed before sunrise and rushing over to the window to find a perfectly clear sky and flat water - a great way to start the day.

Then, creating high quality images of antique & classic boats that will be locked in time for future generations to enjoy...

Thanks to you both!
