The aft cabin is stock, the drawers and the mirrored vanity are identical to the 44' and if this boat has all of the parts, could be a good candidate for anyone that has restored a runabout to step up into a cruiser and not look back. These boats are very rare, we have one at SYC that is in great shape, lives undercover for 35 years in fresh water and the owner wants 85K for it. He replaced the Herc inline 8's in the mid 80's with C.C. 300hp 427's

Anyone interested in a real appraisal of the vessel can fly me out and I will let you know if your checkbook can handle it. :D

High Seas,

Is that Scandalon you're referring to?

No, it's Mañana, she is a 1938 46' DCFB at SYC. Scandalon is moored in Kenmore. Similar layout though... :D

The only way to appreciate how much more boat that is than our 1938(7?), 35' Double Stateroom Enclosed, is for me to lie under it on my crawler with a scraper in my hand and look down the whole length. First one side, then the other. But, oh my my, if that boat was on the Great Lakes, I would already be driving to check it out. The question I would ask is whether it is good to go for 10-15 years before it needs anything beyond normal cosmetic attention and very light maintenance. If that is the case, I would seriously consider it IF we didn't already have a pre-war CC cruiser (pre-war for us being 1939) which gave us 20 years of unflagging service before needing the big repairs I am doing now. Would I swap ?... hard to say because our boat has so many memories built in. I have yet to sand out the teeth marks our 22 year old made when she was a toddler chewing on the cockpit side. I can't comment on the price without careful inspection. It may be reasonable, it may not.... but, oh my my....

Robert Paul,

I hear you. When I bought my 1960 36' Constellation I thought that was pretty small but it was the smallest I would consider safe for the Great Lakes. (My boat's in Port Huron, MI.) Shortly after that I found a 1960 50' over on Lake Michigan and wished I had found it first. But then my Boat Wright showed me his 1961 32' Connie and I realized how much more that 4 feet in length (really 4'10" as LOA is 36'10") and 7" in beam gave me in usable space. I can sleep six and my head has a shower in it and the bulk heads go to the ceiling so there is privacy in the forward berth. The additional privacy that a larger boat would give would be nice but all of the costs associated with a larger boat also go up. The Double Cabin is a nice way to gain more interior space without increasing the LOA. Sadly mine is not so equipped but I greatly appreciate what I have.

You mentioned that if that boat was on the Great Lakes you'd already be on your way to have a look at it. Where is home port for you?

Bill

We boat out of Kingston which is at the eastern most end of lake Ontario and the start of the St. Lawrence River. Check Google satellite and you will see why it is such a sweet cruising area. Peter is about 50 miles west on the Bay of Quinte. Also very nice. We have found 35' to be a nice size for a family of four. It is also a convenient size for maneuvering (twin crowns) in some of the smaller marinas and through the locks on the Rideau Canal. The Rideau System starts at Kingston. I would consider a big boat like Laclede's if it was ready to go and would be willing to pay a fair price. I am ok with refitting our boat but would not want another big project. Money is not the issue... just sheer energy or the lack of it. +50' is just way too much for me to handle. I can see the attraction of such a large boat on tidewater, but down here it is overkill.

About 10 years ago we encountered a guy with a 60'+ CC (mid 1960's I think) which he kept in Toronto. He was visiting the 1000 islands at gananoque. He had just put $1.5m into a refit, the boat looked spectacular and had all the features you would expect. But it was really, really big and in this area, difficult to manage. He had a 'captain' and all that so his approach was different than ours. I think the name was Fox Point, or something sounding like that.

Easy to get silly ain't it!

Regards

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Looks like the Opening of the Gates ceremony at the start of the boating season. Coming through the Montlake Cut into Lake Union. You can see what looks like Husky Stadium there along the shore in the one picture.' I also see one boat, the fantail launch, that looks like the MV Olympus. Time frame appears to be 1960 - 62?

Thanks Doug! Are any of those still around? The Ellis Family has made many videos of Seattle area boats that are really designed to give the Captains a view of their boat as it cruises. I always appreciate when we get to see pictures of the interiors. It helps me to know what they might have/should look like as I'm restoring mine.

Mine is fairly intact but it's the little details that I'm looking for. For instance; from pictures and company brochures I've learned that my dish rack is located on the other side of the dinette to allow room for the addition of a stove with an overhead oven. I still don't know if it came that way originally or was done later. The range looks period to the boat but I don't know for sure.

Great set of pictures. Hope to one day get out there to see the opening and maybe attend the Rendezvous or the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival! Be nice to maybe meet some folks who've seen my boat when it was there. It's unique enough for a Chris Craft with its custom Mahogany enclosed wheelhouse that I think they would remember it.

Bill,

If you let me know your boats previous name, I have all of the records of boats attended for all past 24 CCR's

Tim,

She was called Allmis and was on Lake Union at the Marina owned by Western Motors. Her owner at that time was Mark Holliday. She had not been taken anywhere since the 2000 boating season. One of her engines was not working and her steering linkage was all corroded and would not move. She had been used as a weekend getaway.

If she was at any of the CCRs it would have to be 2000 or earlier. Pervious owner to the Hollidays had her for about 15 years. He had two surveys done while he owned her, both by a Seattle Surveyor named Johnson. She was originally delivered to Portland, OR - Staff Jennings CC Dealership. Don't know when she was moved to Seattle.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, Here is a great festival that is a great weekend trip. Drive or take the Victoria express from Seattle to see.

Rob,

That guy who visited Gananoque 10 years ago decided to stay. His name is Carl and his boat is indeed Fox Point(e?). I can see the boat from my cottage porch. He owns Polaris Is, just South East from Gan Marina. Its immaculate. I row by it often. Only seen it under way a few times. Sounds amazing.

I snipped a still from a video a friend took of my maiden voyage last year as I was coming into dock. Resolution of the still is poor. You can see FP in the distance.

Doug,

Thanks for the link to the BC Festival. I've seen some videos on You Tube if the Festival but that link was great! I'd need about a week to really see all those boats in person! So if I ever do make it out that way I would definitely try to take it in! Thanks, Bill
