Flathead-6 Valve Adjustment

Post by markussstill » Sun May 29, 2016 11:17 pm

Hey guys, can anyone supply me a step-by-step procedure for adjusting the valves on a Chris Craft 95-HP "K"motor? I've got a valve that sticks open when the operating temp rises above 140F (momentary peak when powering-down to idle), causing the engine to idle very radically (usually dies). Help!....

I don't know the procedure, but am concerned that adjustment will not fix a sticking valve. Is it possible that there is a bigger problem?

I think I would add some marvel oil to my fuel and maybe even my crank case oil, along with doing the valve adjustment.

Are you using oil with ZDDP?

I am curious to see what others suggest.

I have to agree w/ Troy. This could indicate a problem. Has this motor been sitting for a while?. These K's are notorious for the valves sticking after storage. The MM oil may help loosen things up.

How do you know it's a stuck valve?
