What did I buy?

If it doesn't pertain to metal, wood, wire or fabric—but it is about vintage Chris-Crafts, ask your question or give your advice here.

What did I buy?

Post by seaairah » Fri Apr 07, 2017 12:23 am

I just bought a 1958 Constellation! Or did I? When the title arrived, it says that she is a 1959. It really makes no difference. I am in love with her!

I am curious though. The hull number is X35899. Can someone please help me with the correct identity of my new beauty?

Thank you.

My next post will be the story of finding the right boat and arduous journey to get here.

After reading more posts on the subject, I am even more confused!

I am getting the hull number and length off of the state registration card. Not off the hull card or hull plate. It was advertised as a 32' Constellation. The owner bought it from a charity auction. He only had it a short time. So not only am I unsure of the model but now of the length.

Her length or model does not make a difference at this point. Did I mention that I am love with this beauty?

According to the Essential Guide the hull # you provide was for a 35' Constellation built in 1958-'59, the last of the series ending in 1959. The last number being X-35-900, making yours the second to the last off the line.
A very cool find indeed, please post pictures and keep us informed of your progress.

X-35-899 is the next to the last 1959 35' Constellation. According to the bible X-35-900 was the last 1959 35' made.

Thank you all so much for the immediate feedback. Very much appreciated.

So I went to see her this morning and measured her from bow to stern. I'm sure it comes to no one's surprise, she measured out to 35 feet. I couldn't locate the hull tag/plate. I will be looking again tomorrow.

Also, I have taken several picture with my iPhone, but I can't seem to be able to post them directly from there to here.

Once I do, I will proudly put them up and document the process.

Thank you again

If you can't find the hull plate, you will find the hull# stamped on an engine stringer. You can also pull off any interior trim pieces and the # is usually stamped on any parts (edges of engine hatches, cabin doors etc.).

Hey there, any chance you could skim through that book and see exactly what model I have as well? Pretty sure it's a 1950 Sportsman 18. The only documentation I've found so far says it's a V-18-815. I bought her in terribly rough condition and I'm just trying to make sure I proceed with my restoration in the proper direction. Thanks!
