proper front lift ring removal
I need to remove the front ring to replace the rotted center planking. Is there a proper method for this? It looks like I could unscrew from the top by inserting a prybar or something in the ring. It also looks like I could undo the nut on the bilge end. Don't want to over torque something and cause more damage. thanks

Re: proper front lift ring removal
I've just used a hard wood handle of a hammer, or similar, that can fit in the ring. Then I turn to loosen. If it's hard to move, I may put a little penetrating oil (not silicone) into the threads of the rod down by the lifting bracket, wait a bit and try again. Keep track of where the nuts are located on the rod, so you can put everything back as it was, unless they need some adjustment. However, sometimes the ring will come off, but the rod stays, then you can use vice grips or a pipe wrench on the rod to loosen it down under the deck. Careful not to mar or damage the threads.

Make sure to loosen the lock nut under the ring and/or above the hull bracket. once the nut/s are loosened the ring/rod will spin right off counterclockwise.
